Petition filed in Court against the President’s move

A writ has been registered in the Supreme Court against President Bidya Devi Bhandari, saying that she violated the Constitution by not validating the Citizenship Bill.

Advocate Sunil Ranjan Singh has made the office of the President an opposition in the petition, demanding to verify the citizenship bill.

Stating that President Bhandari did not certify the Citizenship Bill as per the constitutional provision, Singh has demanded to rule out the decision of the President and issue an order to verify the bill.

The third day testimony of Jabara has begun today

The third day testimony of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra has begun today.

The House of Representatives, impeachment recommendation Committee is taking statements with Jabra. Earlier, the committee took statements from Jabra on Bhadra 15 and 16, 2079 BS., where he had given a statement that he is not guilty of what he has been accused of.

The committee meeting was reconvened today as there are still questions to be asked to Jabara. 43 questions have been prepared for the statement. Out of which, only 6 questions has been asked till date.

An 11-member committee has been formed to investigate the impeachment.

The MPs of the ruling party filed an impeachment against Jabara on Falgun 1, 2078 BS, saying that he violated the constitution and laws by doing actions contrary to his official responsibilities.

Suspended Chief Justice Jabara at Singha Durbar for statement

Suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara has reached Singha Darbar to give his statement on the impeachment.

The previous meeting of the impeachment recommendation committee called Jabara for a statement today. The chairman of the impeachment recommendation committee, Ram Bahadur Bista has informed that the committee has decided to call for his views on the impeachment issue.

After the committee made a public appeal and demanded to provide evidence against Jabra, Nepal Bar Association and legal professionals also submitted documents and evidence against Jabra to the committee.

People’s representative must resign before nomination

The local level people’s representatives will have to resign from their posts before registering their nominations in the local level elections.

An earlier short-term interim order from the Supreme Court has been overturned today.

A joint bench of Justices Tej Bahadur KC and Til Prasad Shrestha has decided to dismiss the writ petition filed by Nima Galgen Sherpa, chairperson of Helmu village in Sindhupalchowk.

Hearing on petition filed by EC scheduled on April 17

The hearing of the writ petition filed by the Election Commission seeking upholding the election code of conduct is scheduled to be held on April 17 .

The court had earlier issued an interim order not to immediately implement the provision of the commission’s code of conduct after a writ petition was filed against the election code of conduct. However, a joint bench of Justices Tej Bahadur KC and Kumar Regmi has ordered to hear the commission’s petition on April 17 after the commission filed a petition in the Supreme Court through the Attorney General’s Office seeking revocation of the interim order.

The commission had implemented the code of conduct saying that the people’s representative who is running for re-election in the local level election can become a candidate in the election only by resigning from his post.

Election Commission filed a Petition in the Supreme Court seeking to uphold the election code of conduct

The Election Commission (EC) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to uphold the election code of conduct requiring elected representatives to resign from their posts while contesting local elections.

In the code of conduct of the Election Commission, it has been mentioned that the people’s representative should resign from the post twhile contesting the local level election. The commission has filed a petition in the court on the same basis.

Earlier, the court had issued an interim order not to implement the provision of the commission’s code of conduct immediately. However, the commission has filed a petition through the Attorney General’s Office seeking revocation of the interim order.

Ghimire leads the vote count of Bar Association

Presidential candidate Gopal Krishna Ghimire has maintained his lead in the counting of votes for the election of the 26th Central Working Committee of the Nepal Bar Association.

Ghimire has received 905 votes so far while his rival Bishnumani Adhikari has received 447 votes. According to Senior Advocate Usha Malla Pathak, Chief Election Superintendent of Nepal Bar Association, 2078 BS, counting of votes has been completed in 13 centers so far.

Of them, counting of votes has been completed in Sarlahi, Ilam, Mahendranagar, Parsa, Dipayal, Jhapa, Janakpur, Rautahat, Dhankuta, Dhangadhi, Siraha, Bara and Surkhet. The group led by Ghimire has the lead in the counting of votes . So far, Anjita Khanal has got 813 votes and Kedar Prasad Koirala has got 531 votes. Bharat Bahadur Raut got 870 votes and Jagat Bahadur Karki got 486 votes.

The counting of votes had started on Tuesday morning but was postponed in the evening and resumed from 9 am today. Voting was held in 35 places across the country, including the Kathmandu Center.

Nine thousand 708 voters had cast their votes in the election for the 25-member executive committee including 11 office bearers and members including the chairperson. There were 5,700 voters in the Kathmandu Valley and 3,500 outside the Kathmandu Valley. Only 7,429 votes were cast.
