Human Rights Commission requests to remove obstruction on suspended Chief Justice Rana

The National Human Rights Commission has requested to remove the obstruction on the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra. In a statement issued by the commission after monitoring the residence of the Chief Justice, it has been requested to end this kind of detention according to the constitution and law.

It is the responsibility of the state to respect the personal freedom, freedom of movement and privacy rights of any person provided by the constitution. Therefore, the commission urges all the related parties to end this kind of detaining act by relying on the constitution and the law.

The commission said that it went to monitor Rana after receiving information that the security personnel did not allow him to leave the residence without any reason.

The commission said that people entering and leaving Rana’s residence were monitored, vehicles leaving the residence were strictly checked and Rana’s vehicle skirting team was also removed.

According to the information received, Jabara was held captive by the security personnel assigned at his house on the strict order from the goverment,”said the commission.

The third day testimony of Jabara has begun today

The third day testimony of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra has begun today.

The House of Representatives, impeachment recommendation Committee is taking statements with Jabra. Earlier, the committee took statements from Jabra on Bhadra 15 and 16, 2079 BS., where he had given a statement that he is not guilty of what he has been accused of.

The committee meeting was reconvened today as there are still questions to be asked to Jabara. 43 questions have been prepared for the statement. Out of which, only 6 questions has been asked till date.

An 11-member committee has been formed to investigate the impeachment.

The MPs of the ruling party filed an impeachment against Jabara on Falgun 1, 2078 BS, saying that he violated the constitution and laws by doing actions contrary to his official responsibilities.

Jabara giving his statement for the second day today

The statement of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara has started for the second day today.

The House of Representatives, impeachment recommendation Committee is taking statements with Jabra. Yesterday, Jabara answered four questions in the parliamentary committee spending almost four hours. Committee had prepared 43 questions for Jabara’s statement. Jabara had given a statement that he is not guilty of what he has been accused of.

Suspended Chief Justice Jabara at Singha Durbar for statement

Suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara has reached Singha Darbar to give his statement on the impeachment.

The previous meeting of the impeachment recommendation committee called Jabara for a statement today. The chairman of the impeachment recommendation committee, Ram Bahadur Bista has informed that the committee has decided to call for his views on the impeachment issue.

After the committee made a public appeal and demanded to provide evidence against Jabra, Nepal Bar Association and legal professionals also submitted documents and evidence against Jabra to the committee.

Impeachment motion been filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra

An impeachment motion has been filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra at the Parliament Secretariat this morning.

Nepali Congress Whip Pushpa Bhusal and CPN-Unified Socialist Whip Jeevan Ram Shrestha were the proponents of the impeachment motion which was signed by 98 lawmakers from the three parties, including Law Minister Dilendra Prasad Badu. According to Article 101, Clause 2 of the Constitution, the impeachment motion has been filed against Jabra by the ruling Nepali Congress, ruling coalition partner CPN-Maoist Center and UCPN (Maoist) MPs.

The Nepal Bar Association has been protesting for a long time demanding Jabra’s resignation, while Supreme Court justices have been boycotting long sittings.

After the impeachment is registered in the Parliament Secretariat, Chief Justice Jabra will be automatically suspended.
