Sandeep Lamichhane being sent to Central Jail

Sandeep Lamichhane, accused of raping a minor, has been ordered by the Kathmandu District Court to be sent to prison.

Judge Madhav Prasad Ghimire on Friday ordered the accused Lamichhane to be jailed pending trial. Lamichhane will be sent to Central Jail, Sundhara. On Monday, the Office of the Public Prosecutor in Kathmandu filed a case against Lamichhane in the Kathmandu court demanding imprisonment for 10 to 12 years and reasonable compensation to the victim from the accused.

Lamichhane was arrested from Tribhuvan Airport on Ashwin 20 2079 BS., after a complaint was lodged against Lamichhane on the charge of rape in the Gaushala police station on Bhadra 21 2079 BS. The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) also issued a diffusion notice against Lamichhane.

Permission to remand Sandeep Lamichhane for 7 more days

The district court in Kathmandu has allowed rape accused Sandeep Lamichhane to be held in custody for another 7 days.

According to the order of Kathmandu District Court, Lamichhane, who was arrested last Thursday, will be held in custody for the next seven days for investigation. During the investigation, the police will proceed with the statement process in the presence of the district attorney.

Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17-year-old minor and a case against him was filed at Kathmandu Police Circle Gaushala.

Earlier, a diffusion notice by Interpol was issued against him.

Interpol issued ‘diffusion notice’ against Sandeep Lamichhane

Interpol has issued a ‘diffusion notice’ against the suspended captain of the Nepali national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane.

The international police organization Interpol has issued a diffusion notice listing Lamichhane as a fugitive. After the ‘diffusion notice issued by Interpol, the countries affiliated with Interpol will investigate whether Sandeep Lamichhane is in that country or not, and if found, he will be arrested and sent to Nepal.

After a police complaint was filed against Sandeep Lamichhane on the charge of rape, Lamichhane didn’t return to Nepal who was abroad to play in the Caribbean league. As his whereabouts have been unknown since the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him, police kept him on the fugitive list and issued a diffusion notice from Interpol.

Arrest warrant issued against Sandeep Lamichhane: Suspended from the national cricket team

Kathmandu District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichhane, captain of the Nepali national cricket team, who is accused of rape.

After the arrest warrant has been issued, the police have prepared to make a formal request for Lamichhane’s return through the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) and if Lamichhane does return even after that, he will be brought back to Nepal through Interpol or other means, the police said.

The victim, who was staying in a hostel in Kathmandu, said that the hostel closes at 8 pm, but when they returned from Nagarkot, it was already late at night. It is said that Lamichhane, who came back to Kathmandu, forced her to stay in a hotel at night and raped her. This incident happened on Bhadra 5th 2079 BS. and the day after the incident, Lamichhane went to Kenya to play T20 series.

Based on the complaint, a detailed medical examination of the victim has also been done and the police have started an investigation into the incident.

Niharika’s hunger strike ended after 17 days

Niharika Rajput (Sonalikumari Singh), who has been demanding the DNA test of her son born out of rape and rape accused Shivraj Shrestha, has ended her hunger strike.

Niharika Rajput, who has been on a hunger strike for 17 days, has ended her strike by agreeing on 3 points with the government. In the presence of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gobind Prasad Koirala, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Gobind Prasad Rizal and Niharika reached the three points agreement.

It has been agreed that the public prosecutor will demand the court for DNA testing of the pending case in Janakpur High Court on behalf of Niharika.

Similarly, to make the DNA test reliable, it has been demanded to adopt the necessary procedure before the court and after these demands are fulfilled, it is mentioned in the consent letter that Niharika will end her strike

The hearing of the case filed by Niharika in the High Court has been fixed for the 24th of August, saying that the District Court Dhanusha has acquitted the rape accused Shrestha.

Shrestha, whom Niharika accused of rape, was arrested and detained by the police a few days ago on charges of indecent behavior.

Murder of a 4-year-old girl after rape: 4 people arrested

The police have arrested 4 people on the charge of murdering a 4-year-old girl after rape.

A 4-year-old missing girl from Birgunj Metropolitan City-2 Chhapkaiya was found dead in a bush of empty land in Birgunj-2 Chhapkaiya on 23 July.
During the investigation, the police arrested the 12-year-old youth who first reported that the body had been found, and when the involvement of 3 other people including the same child was found, the police arrested the other 3 accused and started further investigation.

In the preliminary investigation of the police, it has been revealed that the murder took place after forced coercion. The police have said that they are conducting a further investigation against the 4 accused persons for the crime of rape and murder.

Agreement to extend time limit in rape case

The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the parliament has agreed to extend the time limit in rape cases. As per the agreement, the term will be one year for adults and two years for minors.

According to the agreement, any minor who has been raped will have to lodge a complaint three years after the completion of 18 years, i.e. till the age of 21, while in the case of an adult, a complaint has to be lodged within two years of the incident.

Provision has been made to file a complaint within two years and three months of being released from custody or abduction if raped while in custody or in abduction. Similarly, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and mentally disabled persons have to lodge a complaint within three years of the incident.
