Janardan Sharma again appointed as Finance Minister

CPN Maoist Center leader Janardan Sharma has been re-appointed as Finance Minister.

Sharma, who resigned after becoming controversial in the budget issue of the financial year 2079/80, will take charge of the finance minister again after being cleared by the parliamentary investigation special committee.

It is said that on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Sharma as a minister to take charge of the Ministry of Finance again. It is also said that Sharma will take the oath of office and secrecy today.

Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee report submitted to the parliament

The parliamentary special investigation committee constituted to investigate the then Finance Minister Janardan Sharma on the charge of unauthorized persons entering the Ministry of Finance and changing the rates of taxes and customs during the preparation of the budget for the financial year 2079/80 has submitted its report to the Parliament today.

In the 129-page long report prepared by the 11-member parliamentary special committee led by MP Laxmanlal Karna, it has cleared Sharma saying that no such concrete evidence has been found against him.

According to paragraph 4 of the report published by the committee, It has been concluded that Sharma is set to be free of all charges.

Parliamentary Special Inquiry Committee meeting at 4 p.m

The report of the CCTV footage of the Ministry of Finance has been submitted to the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee by the police forensic team.
The meeting of the committee held at 8 o’clock in the morning opened the sealed report, but it was said that it should be analyzed by the experts of the laboratory. Secretary of the committee Surendra Aryal said that the Sealed forensic report given by the police was opened, but since it is a technical matter, it has to be discussed with the experts, and then the detailed information about it will be released only after getting information from the experts of the laboratory.

After the CCTV footage was deleted from the Ministry of Finance, the investigation committee sent the forensic lab of the police to recover the footage. After the investigation committee did not find any concrete evidence during the investigation, it has been demanding that the facility of tracking the call details and location of the then Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma should be provided. However, members of the ruling party protested against providing the call details to the committee saying that it would violate the right to privacy.

Demonstration in the streets demanding the resignation of the Finance Minister

Industrialists and workers of Morang have staged a protest demanding the resignation of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.

Industry organizations and workers including Morang Trade Union, Industry Association, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Nepal Trade Union Congress, All Nepal Trade Union Federation have protested against Finance Minister Sharma accusing him for making the policy in favor of those who gave him the commission during the budget allocation.

Stating that due to the incompitence of the Finance Minister, many industries have come to a shutdown position and millions of workers will become unemployed, they have demanded to correct the tax range created by the new budget system.

According to the protesters, the agitation will continue until the Finance Minister resigns and the Inland Revenue Office and Customs Office will be cordoned off on Friday.
