Xi Jinping holds a phone conversation with Zelensky

April 26- President of China, Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Zelensky for the first time since Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine.

It is said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has told his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky that China will push for an early ceasefire in Ukraine and China is determined to facilitate the peace process and a ceasefire as soon as possible.

“Chinese authorities have no intention to quietly observe the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, but at the same time will not fuel the flame,” President Xi said during a phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky.He aslo said that “dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way out.”

President Zelensky also tweeted that the dialogue was “long and meaningful.” He said the call, along with the appointment of an ambassador to China, will “give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.”

China warns US not to interfere in Taiwan affairs

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned that by interfering in the Taiwan issue, Washington is trying to weaken China’s sovereignty, which may cause great danger in the near future.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a meeting with his American counterpart Antony Blinken in New York, said that the United States should change its approach to China in order to unite the two powers on the world stage.

According to Wang, China considers the self-governing island as its territory and will resist any foreign diplomatic and military aid to Taipei. He also said that the US has no right to interfere because the issue of Taiwan is an internal matter of China.

Wang also said he hopes that the US will correct its attitude towards China and stop trying to put pressure on Taiwan matter.

On the other hand, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Blinken talked about the need to maintain an open line of communication with Beijing and is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in line with the ‘one-China’ policy.

Two US warships sail through the Taiwan strait

The US Navy has announced that the two US warships are passing through the Taiwan Strait.

Washington has said that the two guided-missile cruisers – the USS Antietam and the USS Chancellorsville – are the commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and are demonstrating freedom of navigation through international waters.

Meanwhile, Beijing said such provocative actions are being monitored maintaining a high alert and is ready to defeat any provocation.

Tensions between Taiwan and China have increased following a visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan earlier this month.
