Serbian President condemned the UN and the west for the violation of Serbia’s sovereignty

Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic condemned the UN members and the west for the violation of Serbia’s sovereignty.

Referring to the endorsement of Kosovo’s independence by the UN and western countries, he said that the UN and the west have failed to explain why they have different points of view on Ukraine and Serbia’s territorial integrity.

Referring to the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, he said that we want a clear answer that we have been asking for years, “Why is the truth about the violation of Serbia’s territorial integrity unspoken and what is the difference between the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia?”

NATO occupied Kosovo in 1999, after a 78-day bombing campaign against what was then Yugoslavia. The province declared independence in 2008 with Western support and was recognized by the US and most of its allies.

US issues visa to Lavrov for UN visit

Washington has granted visas to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other high-level diplomats. The decision will allow Moscow’s representatives to visit New York for the United Nations General Assembly, despite being under US sanctions.

Moscow had repeatedly criticized Washington for refusing to grant visas to the Russian diplomats to attend the 77th session of the assembly.

The US slapped personal sanctions on high-level Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, following the launch of Moscow’s military offensive in Ukraine in February.

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov accused Washington earlier on Tuesday of “breaking their obligations” by delaying the granting of visas.“Let’s hope that the United States will deliver on its duties,” he said, saying that Washington must grant visas to everyone scheduled to attend the General Assembly.

The 77th session of the UN General Assembly will open on September 13, 2022, though the main event of this session will be the ‘High-Level week’ from September 20 to 26, which will be attended by many world leaders and foreign ministers.

PM Deuba will not attend the UN General Assembly

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, will not be attending the upcoming 77th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

During the participation in the UN general assembly, Pm Deuba was supposed to have a bilateral visit between the US and Nepal. But as the date of the election in Nepal has been fixed and no concrete date from the US for a bilateral visit has been set, he will not be attending the UN General Assembly.

Earlier, arrangements were made to hold a bilateral visit between US and Nepal. But it was postponed after the rejection of SPP by the Nepal government in June.

According to the information received, Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka will attend the UN general assembly on behalf of Nepal. But no decision has been finalised yet and the next cabinet meeting will decide regarding the matter, said an official of foreign affairs.

Usually, The head of government or head of state of the member countries of the United Nations participates in the General Assembly and express their views on the world stage on behalf of their respective countries.
