Parliament session called by President Paudel

Kathmandu – President Ramchandra Paudel has called a session of both houses of the Federal Parliament. On the Recommendation of the Council of Ministers President Paudel has called a meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, informed that President Paudel has called a meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly to be held at 4 pm on 5th February.

Clause (1) of Article 93 of the Constitution provides that the President shall convene a session of the Parliament on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Budget session starts

May 7-Kathmandu — The budget session of the Federal Parliament is starting today. Today, Finance Minister Prakasharan Mahat will submit a proposal to discuss the principles and priorities of the appropriation bill for the next financial year.

According to the constitutional provision, the budget for the next financial year should be submitted by 29th of May. Before that, the annual policy and program will be submitted. According to the Parliament Secretariat, an ordinance to amend some laws related to the Civil Code will also be submitted on today’s session.

In the 92-hour and 30-minute meeting of the first parliamentary session that lasted for 110 days, no significant work was done, nor was any bill passed, except for passing the rules of the House of Representatives and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal taking a vote of confidence twice.

The parliamentarians said that the government did not answer the questions raised by the parliamentarians in the previous session, and the government should address the questions raised by the people’s representatives in the next session. The government is also under pressure to move forward the Citizenship Bill, which was not implemented due to non-certification by the President, in this session.

House of Representative’s meeting at 1 pm

A meeting of the House of Representatives will be held today at 1 pm at the Federal Parliament Building.

In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Education and Health Committee, Jaipuri Gharti, will submit the report of the Education and Health Committee on the Yogamaya Ayurveda University Bill, according to the Parliament Secretariat.

Similarly, Home Minister Balkrishna Khand will present the Prisons Bill, 2076 with the report of the State Order and Good Governance Committee for discussion and propose that the Prisons Bill 2078 be passed.
In today’s meeting, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel will submit a proposal to consider the amendment made by the National Assembly on the Madan Bhandari Science and Technology University Bill 2076, according to the Parliament Secretariat.

UML’s proposal to postpone the parliament sitting

The main opposition party CPN-UML has registered a motion to adjourn the parliament.

Chief Whip of the CPN-UML Vishal Bhattarai and 15 other UML lawmakers have filed a motion to adjourn the parliament.

The proposal submitted by the UML to the Parliament Secretariat has demanded the discussion about the solutions on providing the chemical fertilizers on time to the farmers.UML has accused the government being not serious about the issues of the farmers problems.
