Hearing on IGP appointment dispute been postponed

The hearing on IGP appointment dispute has been postponed by the supreme court today.

The case against Inspector General of Police (IGP) promotion was scheduled to be heard in a joint sitting of Justices Bishwabhar Prasad Shrestha and Dr. Kumar Chudal in the Supreme Court today. Though a hearing has been scheduled, the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing in the case of three DIGs Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakash Jung Karki saying that the time limit has not been met.

DIG Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed the writ petition after the government decided to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as IGP. In the writ petition, Pokhrel has demanded to be IGP. AIG Pokharel had filed a writ petition at the apex court alleging that the government had promoted IG by violating seniority .

Shekhar Koirala opposes the appointment of IGP

Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has opposed the appointment of Inspector General of Police.

Stating that the IGP was appointed by violating the priorities and procedures, he said, “The decision of the government has made a mockery of the rule of law.” The government’s decision has once again brought the entire police force into controversy. ‘

The cabinet meeting held today promoted Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the new police chief.
