Dean R. Thompson appointed US Ambassador to Nepal

Dean R. Thompson has been appointed as the US Ambassador to Nepal.

Thompson, who has worked in the foreign department for nearly three decades, has been appointed as ambassador to Nepal. Thompson, sworn in on Friday in Washington DC, will replace former Ambassador Randy Berry.

Thompson worked as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the US State Department and served in the role of Acting Assistant Secretary in the region from 2020 to 2021. Thompson also served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Bucharest, Romania.

Thompson also served as Consul General at the US Consulate in Kolkata, India. He has also worked at the US Embassy , ​​Economic Counselor in Sri Lanka and also worked as in the US Embassy of Paraguay and Bangladesh.

Thompson, who represented the State Department as a student at the National War College, has also served as the Director of the State Department’s Executive Secretariat Staff, Deputy Director of the State Department Operations Center, Director of the Operations Center Crisis Management Staff and Deputy Director for Information Resource Management for the Executive Secretariat.

It is said that the newly appointed Ambassador Thompson will arrive in Kathmandu in a few days.
