Dengue cases on the rise: arbitrary fees for testing

Dengue has spread all over the country. Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital have started to grow a crowd as the number of dengue patients has increased.

After the increase in the number of patients, the hospital has extended the emergency service in the corridor outside the ward. According to the hospital, they have extended the emergency service with 5 extra beds in the corridor as the number of dengue patients increased.

Currently, more than 200 people are coming to Dengue Clinic in Teku Hospital daily, while more than 70 patients are coming to the emergency department.

Arbitrary fees for testing

Laboratories have been found charging up to four times more in the name of dengue testing. According to an official of the National Public Health Laboratory, dengue can be tested for up to 400 rupees after adding the cost of the test kit. However, government laboratories are also charging high fees for the dengue test. The dengue test fee at the National Public Health Laboratory costs 800 rupees. Some of the private clinics and lab has been charging Rs. 1200 to Rs. 1500 for the test.
