Droupadi Murmu takes oath as India’s 15th President

Droupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of India today. She was escorted by Vice-President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to the Central Hall.

She was administered oath by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana at a ceremony that was held at Parliament’s Central Hall in the presence of former president Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In her first address as President, Murmu said that her election to the top constitutional post proves that in India, the poor can not only dream but also fulfil those aspirations.” I have been elected during an important time when the country is marking 75 years of Independence,” she said.
Droupadi is the youngest person to take oath as the President of India.

Election begins in India to elect the President

Elections have started today in India to elect the President.

The election for the 15th President of India has started from 10 am today.
Draupadi Muram from the ruling party National Democratic Alliance and Yashwant Sinha from the opposition party are contesting in the election.

Due to the support of other parties, Murma is seen as a strong candidate. It is said that both houses of India, Rajya Sabha and Assembly members will vote in the election and the results of the election will be announced by Thursday.
