Melamchi water supply in kathmandu valley been postponed for 4 months

The government has closed the main entrance of the tunnel of Melamchi Drinking Water Project and water supply from Melamchi to Kathmandu will be stopped for next four months.

The Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee has stated that the tunnel had to be closed due to the onset of rainy season. Although the Melamchi water supply has been resumed in Kathmandu by constructing a temporary structure at the dam site in Sindhupalchok, it is said that the tunnel has been closed due to the possible danger in the rainy season.
The project committee has informed that Melamchi water will be distributed only from mid october, so that the water of Melamchi could be pumped into the tunnel again after regular rains stopped.

The coastal area of ​​Melamchi is still at risk of landslides and floods . Therefore, Melamchi water could not be brought to Kathmandu after the monsoon became active.After the flood damage in 2078 BS., the project has put forward a plan not to distribute water till mid october by closing the main gate of Melamchi.
