Today is Shri Krishna Janmashtami

Vedic Sanatan Dharma devotees are celebrating Shri Krishna Janmashtami with devotion and worship according to Hindu culture.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami’is celebrated today as Lord Krishna, the pioneer of Gyanyoga, Karmayoga and Bhaktiyoga, was born as the son of Vasudeva and Devaki in the captivity of maternal uncle Kansha on the midnight of Bhadra Krishna Ashtami in Dwapara Yuga.

On this day, devotees flock to Krishna temples across the country to worship Lord Krishna. According to Hindu culture, it is believed that Krishna was born as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu to protect all human beings from injustice, tyranny and demonic tendencies. It is mentioned in the religious texts that Lord Krishna of Mathura was taken to Gokul by his father to save him from his maternal uncle Kansha on the night of his birth.

Along with Lord Krishna, Radha is also worshipped on this day. Lord Krishna and Radha’s love relationship is described despite being married to Rukmini.

There is a religious belief that the holy book Srimad Bhagavad Gita originated during the battle of Kurukshetra between the Pandavas and the Kauravas during the preaching of Arjuna.

In Srimad bhagavata Gita Krishna says to Arjuna:
Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya, Glanirbhavati Bharat
Abhyutthanam dharmasya, tadatmanam srujamyham

Meaning:
Whenever religion is lost in the world and unrighteousness prevails,
Then, for the protection of religion, I myself will come to this earth with a new avatar.
