Floods and landslides in Darchula: Five dead, six missing

The life of the country has been affected by the floods and landslides caused by the incessant rains since a few days ago. Due to floods and landslides, dozens of houses have been damaged and many families have been displaced.

Dozens of families have been displaced in Darchula due to floods and landslides that have occurred since last night. According to the police, seven people, including four people from the same house, are missing and five people died due to the flood in Mahakali river and Lasku river.

Due to the flood, the road connecting Duhun Vyas through Khalanga and the road from Ringaltal to Kalunbir under Darchula Tinkar road has been blocked. The Darchula Tinkar road built through the Mahakali embankment has been completely damaged, while the motorized bridge and suspension bridge built over the Lasku river have been swept away. Dasharathnagar Basic School in Khalanga has also been swept away by the flood.

Locals said that five jeeps, a tractor and a trolley which were parked at night on the Darchula Tinkar road were swept away.

Single woman murdered by setting a fire


A single woman has been killed by setting a fire in Shailyashikhar Municipality-1 of Darchula district.

According to police, the body of 40-year-old Aniva Khadayat was found burnt near her house. Preliminary police investigations have confirmed that she was killed by setting fire to a haystack near her house.
Khadayat, who lost her husband about eight years ago, has two daughters and a son. Police have arrested Birendra Khadayat and Tula Khadayat of the same village for investigation.
