Health ministry seeks expert’s advice to dispose 4 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine

Officials said that the Ministry of Health and Population has started consultation with vaccine experts to dispose 4 million doses of Sinovac-Coronavac Covid-19 vaccine that expired in December last year.

The vaccine was provided by China two years ago. When China sent the vaccine as a support, other vaccines were also available in Nepal . When the vaccine arrived, most of the Nepalese were already vaccinated and due to the less number of Nepalese remain to be vaccinated, the vaccine was not used and got expired.

Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, has said that he has started taking expert’s advice to dispose 4 million doses of the vaccine . “We have consulted experts from the World Health Organization, vaccine experts of the country and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee on cost-effective and easy ways to dispose the vaccine .” Officials said they have also consulted with experts from China’s vaccine manufacturing companies to dispose the vaccine doses.

Nepal used various brand of coronavirus vaccines such as AstraZeneca, Vero Cell, Pfizer-Biotech, and Moderna manufactured in several countries.

China eases covid restrictions in Shanghai after two months

After a two-months restriction, China eased covid sanctions on the World Trade and Economic Center Shanghai. China has eased sanctions, allowing about 25 million people to move freely around the city.

Despite China’s easing of sanctions, China’s overall policy of “zero covid” remains. Those suspected of covid will still have to stay in quarantine or hospital. Residents will have to show a green health code on their smartphone to leave their residential compounds and enter other outdoor areas. Those wishing to use public transport or enter banks or malls must show a negative PCR test certificate for the last 72 hours. However, they will not be able to leave Shanghai, and anyone traveling to another city will have to stay in a quarantine for 7 to 14 days .Cinema halls, museums and gyms and schools will remain closed.

Booster dose to be given within 3 months of corona vaccination

The Ministry of Health and Population has made arrangements to give booster vaccine three months after the completion of the first series of vaccination of Covid-19.

The family welfare division of the ministry has written to all the state health directorates and all 77 district health offices requesting to give booster dose within three months of completing the first series of vaccinations. Earlier, it was the government’s policy to give a booster dose only six months after the first series of Covid-19 vaccines.
