Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak has become the Prime Minister of Britain. He became the first Hindu Prime Minister of Britain.

Sunak was appointed Prime Minister of the country by British King Charles on Tuesday. Sunak, 42, is the first prime minister to be appointed by King Charles.

Sunak, who replaced Liz Truss, who announced her resignation on October 20 amid growing discontent among her colleagues in the ruling Conservative Party over her failed economic policies, had previously been defeated by Truss in an internal party race for prime minister.

Sunak has become the sole contender for Prime Minister from the Conservative Party after both rivals of the Conservative Party, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt withdrew from the Prime Minister’s race.

Sunak is a third-generation immigrant whose family moved to Southampton, UK from Kenya and British Tanganyika (modern Tanzania) in the 1960s.
