New Delhi, March 24: The Parliament of India on Friday revoked the parliamentary post of the leader of the opposition Congress party, Rahul Gandhi. Parliament revoked his post after a court sentenced him to two years in prison in a defamation case linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nickname.

In one of his speeches in 2019, Gandhi said “why all the thief’s caste is Modi” by referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a defamation case was filed against him on the same subject.

On the other hand, Congress leaders have said that they are preparing to appeal to the High Court and will fight this battle both legally and politically.

Congress party officials have accused the Modi government and its Party (BJP) of being involved to assassinate Gandhi’s political career.
