Government agrees to reduce tax on fuel by Rs.10

The government has decided to reduce the tax on petroleum products after widespread protests and criticism from the people.

Although the government has given its consent to the Ministry of Finance to remove the tax on two headings, it has not been decided which heading tax will be reduced and how much. The government has moved ahead with discussions on reducing the customs and infrastructure tax by Rs 5 each to Rs 10 in total.

The government has been levying Rs 25.23 as a custom tax and Rs 10 as infrastructure tax per liter in petrol. Similarly, diesel is taxed at Rs 12.2 pais as a custom tax and Rs 10 on infrastructure tax.
