April 22 – As Chief Minister of Pokhara-Gandaki province Khagraj Adhikari failed to get a vote of confidence, UML’s supremacy in the Gandaki province government has also ended. The effect of the change in the power equation due to the presidential election is clearly seen in the provincial government.

After the Maoist Center withdrew its support and called back its ministers, the UML leaders were in the minority in Gandaki. While the 60-member Gandaki provincial assembly took the vote of confidence today, only 24 MPs (22 from UML and 2 from RPP) supported Adhikari. Earlier, 31 MPs gave him a vote of confidence.

A new government will be formed by tomorrow

As the Chief Minister Khagraj Adhikari was relieved of his post after failing to receive a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly, the leader of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly Parliamentary Party of the Nepali Congress, Surendra Pandey, has said that a new government will be formed by tomorrow.

However, it remains to be seen whether the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, as the leader of a major party, will be appointed the Chief Minister by the state head or a coalition government will be formed as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.
