Employees of Engineering Service Group protesting inside Singha Durbar

The employees of the Engineering Services Group of the Ministry of Urban Development have protested in front of the Ministry in Singhadabar. The employees of the Civil Group, Building and Architect sub-group of the Ministry of Engineering staged a symbolic protest.

The employees started protesting after the government decided to bring the Doli Department under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration under the name of the Department of Settlement Development and Infrastructure Facilitation under the Ministry of Urban Development and occupy the jurisdiction of the Urban Department. Ekaraj Adhikari, the coordinator of the movement and joint secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, said that a memorandum has been submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and the Ministry of Urban Development to immediately correct the decision made by the Council of Ministers.

According to the joint secretary , if the government does not listen to the demands of the engineers immediately, they will stop the work of the urban departments across the country and warned that the technicians will resign en masse.They have demand that local infrastructure department as provided in point number 305 of the budget of the financial year should be abolished and at most 10 percent of the technical staff in the department will remain in the local infrastructure development facilitation unit under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and the rest of the staff will be adjusted in the provinces and federal ministries related to physical infrastructure. Employees have warned that If the demand is not heard, we will stop work all over the country and will also resign collectively.

All technicians from Nepal Engineering Service, Civil Group, Building and Architect sub-group participated in the movement. The official trade union of civil servants, Nepal Civil Service Organization, Civil Service Union, National Employees Organization and Integrated Government Employees Organization Urban Development Departmental Working Committees are united in the movement.
