Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party Baburam Bhattarai has announced that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming elections. He made an announcement addressing the people of Gorkha through Twitter today.

Addressing through Twitter, Bhattarai wrote the letter:

Dear Gorkha,
I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the Gorkhali parents, sisters and brothers for the victory you gave me during the elections of 2064, 2070 and 2074 BS and for the opportunity to serve you.

I would like to politely inform everyone here that I will not be a candidate in the upcoming 2079 election.

During my tenure, basic physical and social infrastructures have been built for the long-term development and prosperity of Gorkha, while some of the started projects are yet to be completed. Even though I am not in the parliament, I will continue to actively contribute to the completion of the remaining projects and to make the historic Gorkha a model development center of the country by bringing production and employment-oriented plans and programs on the foundation of those infrastructures.

From 2065 until now, every month I have been visiting to Gorkha and reaching people’s doorsteps and had the opportunity to learn a lot from you. I will continue to be at your service in the days to come.

Not contesting elections does not mean leaving politics.knowingly or unknowingly, Some people may think or say that . Those who do politics from power to power and from election to election say so. But right and good politics is a means of all-round progressive transformation of the society and serving the people and society. I believe in it and will continue on that path all my life. I will continue to work in party work and public service.

I want to assure all the Gorkhali brothers and sisters, that in my place you will find the leadership of a capable and responsible person and the pace of development of Gorkha will be accelerated. I will be there with you.
Best wishes for all upcoming festivals including Badadasain, Tihar, Nepal New Year and more!
