500 fine for non-classification of garbage in Kathmandu Valley

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to take action against the people of Kathmandu for mixing decomposable and non-decomposable garbage in the same place without classifying them.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had earlier agreed with the affected locals of Sisdol and Bancherdanda landfill sites to sort the garbage at the source and allow the dumping of garbage only in the status quo till the end of Ashad. However, the residents of the landfill site have warned to stop dumping garbage if any unclassified garbage comes to the source from first of Shrawan.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has stated that action can be taken against those who do not classify waste at source as per the provisions of Section 51 (th) of the Environment and Natural Resources Protection Act 2077 BS and Section 38 (th) of the Waste Management Act 2068 BS.
