39 local levels of Madhesh province have not submitted their budget details for the financial year 2079/80. According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, out of a total of 136 municipalities in Madhesh province, it has been found that the local level has not submitted the budget statement.

According to the ministry, among the local levels that have not entered the budget details so far, there are three in Province No. 1, four in Bagmati, 10 in Lumbini, three in Karnali and four in Far West Province. All municipalities of Gandaki province have entered the budget details.

Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry Basant Adhikari informed that the local levels that have not entered the budget have been instructed through a circular to enter the budget details in the Ministry’s portal as soon as possible.

Resham Kandel, Chief Deputy Secretary of the Ministry’s Local Level Coordination Branch informed that 63 different local levels have not submitted budget details for the current year out of the 753 municipalities in the country.

According to the law, there is a provision in sub-section (6) of section 71 of the Local Government Operation Act 2074 that the town/village assembly must pass the budget for the next financial year by the end of the fiscal year.
