Dolakha — Houses built encroaching on Nepali Army land have been removed. 39 houses built encroaching on the land of Melung Rural Municipality-6, Tudikhel, have been removed, said Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal.
The houses built encroaching on Nepali Army land were removed by a team including the Garuda Dal, APF and Armed Police of the Nepali Army. The houses built on army land were demolished by using a dozer, he said.
‘We have started the work as part of the campaign to remove encroachment by issuing a notice to demolish houses built on public land,’ he said. ‘We have asked to remove and not build permanent and temporary structures from areas where public land has been encroached on throughout the district.’
In 2007 BS, there was an army contingent in Melung, which was the headquarters of Dolakha and Ramechhap. In 2018 BS, Melung, which was an administrative unit of two districts, was removed as the headquarters after the political division that took place in the same year.
The Garuda Dal Battalion of the Nepali Army had requested the administration to remove the encroachment on its land to conduct training. In Melung, 69 ropanis of land has been acquired in the name of the Nepali Army. The Garuda Dal Battalion has stated that it will conduct training after the encroachment is removed.
